George Tabori

George Tabori (born May 24, 1914, Budapest) is a Hungarian writer and theatre director. He lives in Berlin, Germany and Vienna, Austria.

As a young man Tabori went to Berlin but left Germany in 1935 because of his Jewish descent. He went first to London, where he worked for the BBC, and after the Second World War (1947) to the United States, where he became a translator (mainly of works by Brecht and Max Frisch) and a screenwriter (for example for Hitchcock's 1953 movie, I CONFESS).

In 1971 Tabori returned to Germany, where his new emphasis was theatre work. Since then he has mainly worked in Berlin, Munich, and Vienna.
